Alan James Brown passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
Born Aug. 13, 1927, in London, England, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agnes Jones Brown of Latrobe.
He came to the U.S. when he was eight years old and soon thereafter became a citizen in 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Mahan Brown, to whom he was married for 33 years.
Alan was a retired financial advisor, having worked for the Moore, Leonard & Lynch Brokerage firm, and then his own financial practice.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as a financial officer during World War II and Korea. He played the saxophone in the Air Force Band.
Alan was a member of the Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church in Sigel.
He was known for his love of humor, horses, his golden retrievers, John Wayne and James Bond movies.
He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Von Brachich of California; his six children: Anne (Jack) Deforrest of Wycombe, Barbara (Ron) Ginns of West Grove, Jane Cuccu of Virginia Beach, Va., Georgine (Ken) Scott of Mars, Pa., Mary (Ken) Boyce of Scranton and Alan J. Brown Jr., of Richmond, Va.; his two stepchildren, Mike (Betty) Parker of Franklin, Tenn., and Ann (Bruce) Schueren of Columbus, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Brown of New York, N.Y.; and a daughter, Elizabeth Brown Mylock of Pensacola, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church in Sigel with the Rev. Boyd Edmondson officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.
