Arlene Rae (Hughes) Stoltz (1935 - 2015)

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Arlene Rae (Hughes) Stoltz, 80, of DuBois (formerly of Portage, Pa. and Kitchener, Ontario), passed away at her residence at Christ the King Manor on Thursday, Nov. 19.
She was born April 19, 1935, in Johnstown, Pa., to Morris Hughes and Elba McLain Hughes, who both proceeded her in death. She grew up in Portage, Pa., and upon graduating high school in 1953, had a long career in administrative work. She was a receptionist at the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Portage which treated patients from all over the world, and she later retired after working for over 30 years as the bookkeeper at Stagers Chevrolet in Portage.
It was at the cancer clinic where she met the love of her life, a Canadian named Clare Stoltz. In 1995, Arlene and Clare were married, and she moved with him to Kitchener, Ontario, where she remained until after his death in 2004. A few years later, she returned to the United States to be near family and friends.
You could often find Arlene watching sports, whether it be of her favorite Pittsburgh teams – Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates, or just watching sports in general – football, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis and even curling. On her last evening before entering heaven, she listened to the Penguins game until she was sure they had been victorious.
She also enjoyed worshipping with her fellow church members at the Trinity Methodist Church in Portage and the Bethany Evangelical Church in Kitchener. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir and helping with church-driven projects such as supporting a young man in Ethiopia or making crafts to raise funds for the less fortunate.
She also enjoyed learning about her family's history, and especially her Welsh heritage. Arlene was known to keep up with relatives and friends from all over the world.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Ann Wilson (Thomas) and Richard Morris Hughes (Jacqueline). She is survived by two nieces, Sondi Wilson of Portage and Melinda Hughes (Jim Wert) of Treasure Lake, Pa.; and one nephew, Michael R. Hughes (Karen) of Norfolk, Va. She is also survived by two great nephews, Cristopher Hughes of Indiana, Pa. and Michael S. Hughes of Fairview, Pa.
The family will be holding a viewing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, with a funeral service to follow at the Jean Kinley Funeral Home in Portage, Pa. A reception for friends and family will take place at the Hoss's Restaurant in Ebensburg. Arlene will be buried near her parents in the Forest Lawn Cemetery near Johnstown.
Due to family allergies and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to either her niece's nonprofit organization, Nature Abounds at PO Box 506, DuBois, PA 15801 or to the Trinity United Methodist Church at 817 Caldwell Ave, Portage, PA 15946. Both causes were close to her heart.
