Barbara A. Kocher, 75, Hazel Green, Ala., formerly of Brockway, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Aug. 23, following an extended fight with cancer.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Alfred and Anne (Phillips) Trunk.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dennis Kocher; six children: David (Peggy) Lane of Walworth, N.Y.; Scott (Leslie) Kocher of Fishers, Ind.; Bryan (Lori) Kocher of Oakdale, Pa.; Kevin (Rebecca) Kocher of White Salmon, Wash.; Cathy (Karl) Harris of New Market, Ala.; and Karen (Shawn) Goodwin of Chesapeake, Va.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Barbara and Dennis purchased the original Cook Homestead and revived the historical logger's boarding house by turning it into a Bed and Breakfast in Cooksburg (Cook Forest), Pa., which they owned and ran for 14 years. Prior to that, Barbara worked in the medical field as an orthopedic and dental assistant. They retired to Alabama in 2008. She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Huntsville, Ala., and enjoyed cooking, traveling and reading.
A Celebration of Life has been planned for Barbara to be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Huntsville, Ala., on October 20 at 7 p.m.
