Benjamin Thomas Roberts, 88, Benezett, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at home as he desired.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1929, at home in Lynn, Pa., a son of the late Benjamin F. and Maude M. (Aldridge) Roberts.
Ben joined the Army at the age of 17 and served in World War II receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. In 1950, he married Ellene Marie Tueche; they resided in Belle Vernon, Pa., and worked in the steel mills.
Residing in Benezett after the death of his wife in 1970, he married Janet Hulett who predeceased him in March 2017. Together they opened the Benezett Store in 1970, built the new Benezett Store in 1973, added on the restaurant in 1976 and in 2002 opened the campground where they are all located today.
He was a member of Tri-County Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Donora, Pa., since 1960. He was also a member of Valley of Uniontown Scottish Rite, Valley of Coudersport Scottish Rite, the Syria Shriners in Cheswick, Pa., and a member of the Moose in the Belle Vernon Pa.
Besides his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by one brother, William James Roberts and one sister, Loretta Ann (Roberts) Forte.
Ben is survived by two sons, Gary Lee Roberts and his wife Lesa from New Kensington Pa., and Kim Alan Roberts and his girlfriend Tina Dunkle from Dents Run, Pa., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. with a Masonic Funeral Service at 6 p.m. and also on Wednesday, from 10-11 a.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, Pa. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home by Pastor Missy Smith.
Interment will be at the Belle Vernon Cemetery in Belle Vernon, Pa.
The family suggests memorials to the Bennett's Valley Ambulance and the Driftwood Masonic Lodge in Driftwood and will be accepting online condolences at
