Bertha A. Battaglia, 93, formerly of 35 Freemont Ave., Ridgway, died Thursday morning, April 23, 2015, at Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility in Ridgway.
Born Nov. 1, 1921, in Ridgway, she was a daughter of the late Gustav and Anna Person Anderson. She married Maxwell S. Battaglia on June 14, 1952. He preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1995.
Bertha resided in Ridgway all her life. She was a 1939 graduate of the Ridgway High School and a 1942 graduate of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark, N.J.
She had been employed by Elk County General Hospital and Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
Bertha was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the church choir and was very involved in many of the church women's groups.
She was the Girl Scout nurse at summer camp, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, a volunteer with the Community Nurses, Inc. and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Bertha enjoyed reading and following the Pittsburgh Pirates.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann C. Tuller and her husband, Steve, of Treasure Lake, Betsy J. Rahn and her husband, Edwin, of Titusville, Fla.; three grandchildren: Kristen, Stephanie and Andrew.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Thompson Funeral Home in Ridgway. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Erik Hart, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 215 Cook Ave., Ridgway, PA 15853 or to the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility, 163 Ridgmont Dr., Ridgway, PA 15853.
