Betty Mae Zitzelberger, 91, a guest at the Jefferson Court in Brookville, Pa., formerly of Route 36 North, Brookville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the Brookville Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1924, in Ramsaytown, Pa., the daughter of Merle Clinton Thomas and Sarah Ellen Herriger Thomas.
On Dec. 14, 1951, she married Richard A. Zitzelberger in Big Run, Pa., who preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1995.
Betty was a homemaker, worked for Sylvania in Brookville, Pa., but for most of her life she worked for the Brookville Area School District as a custodian and delivered the mail between all the schools in the district.
She enjoyed shopping for clothes, gardening, going out to dinner, and watching old mystery shows, especially Perry Mason and Columbo, but mostly she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by one brother, Leroy Thomas of Brookville, Pa.; and three sisters, Ruby Thomas, Phoebe Gelnette, both of Brookville, Pa., and June Christian of Falls Creek, Pa.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters: Helen "Nancy" Knapp, A. Marie Hetrick, Doris Cochran, Ilene "Jackie" Monks, and Jean Davis; two brothers, Clinton Thomas and Lawrence "Bill" Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Peterson Funeral Home, 153 Jefferson St. Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the funeral home with the Rev. Henry Scoff officiating.
Burial will be at the Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville, Pa.
