Charles James Kutz "Jim", 79, of St. Johns, Fla., died Sunday, August 19, 2018 after a difficult battle with cancer of the throat caused by smoking.
Born June 2nd, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Virginia Kutz. He attended Brookville High School, Mercersburg Academy and Allegheny College.
Following his graduation from Allegheny College, Jim served as an officer in the U.S. Navy where he met his wife Marge, also an officer in the U.S. Navy, while stationed in Philadelphia, Pa., as recruiters during the Vietnam war. Upon leaving the U.S. Navy, Jim attended and received his law degree from Widener University. He practiced family law with his brother, Bob, for 30 years.
In his 60s, Jim was surprised to be called to the ministry by God, and became an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. He served as the minister for Smithton, Banning and Madison United Methodist Churches.
After the death of his beloved wife, Marge, Jim relocated to St. Johns, Florida to be close to his loving and only daughter, Jane Kutz Immel.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Margeretta W. Kutz; brother, Robert H. Kutz; and aunt, Laura Kutz McMaines.
He is survived by his only daughter and best friend, Jane Kutz Immel, who is devastated of his passing but comforted by his place in the kingdom of our Lord. He is also survived by his brother, who he loved as a son, William C. Kutz (Linda) of Brookville, Pa.; two half-brothers, Harvey and John Kutz and their families; sister-in-law, Carolyn Kutz of Greensburg, Pa.; nephew, David Kutz (Wendy) also of Greensburg, Pa.; nephew, Bob Kutz (Ann) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; grand nieces and nephews, Max Kutz, Katie Kutz, Madison Kutz, and Connor Kutz. He is also survived by his dear friend and companion, Harriett Minnigh of Lake Chautauqua, N.Y.; son of Harriett, Todd Minnigh (Denise), their children Sarah, Christina and Ella of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter of Harriett, Marj Minnigh (Bob) of Boston, Mass., and her son, Jamie Minnigh Keegan.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at River of Life, United Methodist Church, 2600 Racetrack Road, St. Johns, FL 32259. Service begins at 2:30 pm. Family will begin receiving guests at 2 p.m. prior to the service.
