Charles L. Zimmerman, 86, Brookville died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.
Born May 24, 1929, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Regina Lynn Zimmerman. He was married to Rosemary Zimmerman who preceded him in death June 2, 2011.
Mr. Zimmerman worked for and was a supervisor for Square D Electrical Equipment of Oldsmar, Fla., until his retirement.
Charles was a U.S. Navy Veteran and U.S. Marine Corpsman and proudly served his nation from 1948-52 to include participating in the Korean War.
His military decorations and awards include the Korean Service Medal with three stars, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Ribbon and the U.S. Navy Occupation Ribbon.
Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the American Legion in Brookville and enjoyed collecting stamps, traveling to Ireland and sports.
He is survived by three children: two sons and a stepdaughter, Donna and her husband, James Taylor, of Irwin, N.Y. He is also survived by one sister, Sally Cook of Brookville.
Charles is survived by several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews: Mike and Jolynn Cook of Worthville, Rick and Pam Cook of Brookville, Gary Cook of Brookville, Steve Cook of Florida, Tim and Shelly Cook of North Carolina, Lesa and Carl Defelice of Castleberry, Fla., Pat and Amy Hewitt of Florida, and Julie and John Youngmark of State College.
Charles was also known as "Uncle Bubbles" to his great nieces and nephews who also survive him.
He was also preceded in death by one stepson, Daniel Edwards; and a nephew, Tony Cook.
A funeral service was held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Brookville, officiated by Pastor Ray Baker. Interment will be in Scotchtown Cemetery, Erin, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Zimmerman's memory to the Brookville American Legion.
