David A. Himes, 78, of Hazen-Richardsville Road, Brookville, died on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at UPMC – Altoona.
Born on May 4, 1936, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Daniel I. and Elsie L. Smith Himes. On Nov. 16, 1966, he was married to Leona Holt and she survives.
Retired, Dave had worked as a machinist at Brockway Glass for 33 years, drove truck for Brocious Trucking and owned and operated his own automobile repair garage at his residence for 20 years.
He was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Medal.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Hazen. Dave was a member of the Warsaw Vol. Fire Department, the Hormtown Rifle and Pistol Club, and was a member of Masonic Lodge #276 in Brookville.
He enjoyed going to gun shows, hunting, fishing for salmon and attending and helping out at the Hazen Flea Market.
In addition to his wife, Leona, he is also survived by a son, David J. Himes and his girlfriend, Pam Beers, of Punxsutawney; and a daughter, Deborah Jean of Ohio. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Raybuck of Brockway, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home with Pastor Don Henderson officiating. Full military honors will be accorded at the funeral home Tuesday morning by Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion. Burial will follow in the Meade Chapel Cemetery.
