Donald E. "Swannie" Swan of Sykesville died Friday, Aug. 19, at Nelson's Golden Years.
Born in Reynoldsville, June 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Almeda Guthrie Swan and Clifford Swan.
He attended school in Sykesville and graduated in 1948. He played varsity football and basketball for four years, enlisted in the Air Force in June 1948 and served two years in Germany.
He married Virginia Murdock Nov. 20, 1954. She preceded him in death.
He worked for Humphrey Radio for five years and Symmco 41 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy and a sister, Beverly J. Wilson.
He is survived by two sons, Barry L. (Darlene) Swan and Donald R. (Carol Ann) Swan; two grandsons, Kevin and Bryan Swan; and a sister, Barbara Wilson.
He was a life member of the Sykesville Legion, Sykesville Fire Dept. and a Charter member of the Sykesville Eagles # 4454.
Friends will be received from 5–8 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 21, and from 10–11 a.m. Monday at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Sykesville, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Reverend James Fillhart officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will follow at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, Sykesville, Pa.
