Donald G. Gray, age 87, of Brookville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, as a resident of the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, Pa.
Don was born on May 4, 1929, to the late Xanthe Z. and Lucile M. (Haugh) Gray, in DuBois, Pa. For almost 67 years, he had been married to his darling wife, Patricia L. (Huffman) Gray. Their journey in marriage began in Corsica, Pa., on Sept. 18, 1949; Patricia survives him.
Don worked as a school teacher of mathematics for the DuBois Area School District. He was a member of the Roseville Independent Chapel and he was a 32nd degree Mason with affiliation among the John M. Reed Blue Lodge, Grand Commandery Knights Templar, The Scottish Rite Consistery, Grand Council of the Allied Masonic Degrees, and Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine. He had a love for higher education that he pursued throughout his life. He loved to be an educator and he was admired for his intelligence and care from those that he taught and interacted with.
From the age of 14 he was a farmer; he would perform the duties of tending to his land with his family alongside him. He liked to keep busy working. He loved spending time with Patricia; in their younger years they would enjoy evenings square dancing, even though they joked they weren't very good at it. He enjoyed being able to travel with her as they were able; he especially loved their trip to Alaska.
Don will be missed by all those whose lives he was able to touch. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Christopher (Leah) Gray, Paul (Lori) Gray, Eric (Elizabeth) Gray, Drew (Lori) Gray; one sister, Mary Lou Boddorf; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at the McKinney–d'Argy Funeral Home, Ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016, also at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jim Fillhart. Interment will take place at the Roseville–Bethel Cemetery, Union Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Roseville Independent Chapel, Nehemiah Building Fund, 3598 Route 322, Brookville, PA 15825, or to the Thomas E. Starzl Transplant Institute, 3459 5th Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
