Dorothy "Lois" Miller, age 94, passed away on March 24, 2017, at the McKinley Health Care Center in Brookville, Pa.
Lois was born May 12, 1922, in Shannondale, Pa. Lois was the daughter of Mervin Newton Miller and Elsie Catherine Keihl. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, and Pinecrest CC. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards, baking pies, spending her winters in Florida and being with family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Donald E. Miller in November of 1982. They were married Oct. 24, 1942. They began their life together in Norfolk, Va., while Don served in the U.S. Navy. Later moving on to Verona, Tionesta, and settling in her homestead Shannondale, Pa., after retirement. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Harold, Axe, Jay, and Leon; five sisters: Kathryn Harmon, Audrey Greenwalt, Arabelle Hartzell, Mary Jane Baughman and Cleo Miller.
Lois is survived by one sister, Joan A. Miller of Brookville, Pa.; three daughters: Diane (Ralph) Kuhn of Leechburg, Pa., Donna J. Falconer and significant other Jim Durnell of Clarington, Pa., Doris K. (Greg) Mellon of Tionesta, Pa.; and one son, Donald R. (Dixie) Miller of Knoxville, Tenn. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Scott (Michelle) Kuhn of Vandergrift, Pa., Shawn (Diana) Kuhn of Leechburg, Pa., Brian (Vicki) Falconer of Goldsboro, N.C., Renee (Cliff) Wingard of Kossuth, Pa., Shelley (Kevin) Beach of Las Vegas, Nev., Joshua (Nicole) Mellon of Tionesta, Pa., Katie I. Mellon of Tionesta, Pa., Josie Miller of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kenneth Miller and significant other Fleda Bromley of Corryton, Tenn.; also, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 27, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
A second day of viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shannondale, Pa., from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service, beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by Pastor James Steingass. Lois will be laid to rest beside her husband, Donald, in Shannondale Union Cemetery, Shannondale, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to Zion Lutheran Church, 3117 Pine Run Road, Mayport, PA 16240 or the Shannondale Union Cemetery Association, at the same address.
