Edgar J. McCarty, 90, DuBois, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Mt. Laurel Nursing Home in Clearfield.
He was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Big Run, Pa., son of the late Allen McCarty and Alice (Hoover) McCarty Weber. He married Agnes E. (Roy) McCarty May 11, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Edgar was employed by a civilian contractor when he was just a teen that was hired by the U.S. Navy to assist in rebuilding Pearl Harbor. He took on many jobs throughout his life; some of them were logging, truck driver, welder and mechanic. He retired from Jones Brothers Contractors of Tennessee as a welder.
Edgar is survived by a daughter, Thelma Salada of DuBois; two sons, Roger (Margaret) McCarty of Brockport and Marlin (Connie) McCarty of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; two sisters, Dorothy Keller of N. Tonawanda, Marie Shiffler of Altoona; three brothers, Frank (Mary) McCarty and Robert (Joan) McCarty of New York and Clifford McCarty of Reynoldsville; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Edgar A.; brother, Clyde Hoover; and sister, Julia Huey
Edgar was a long time resident of the Luthersburg area.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Sykesville Memorial Cemetery.
