Edwin G. Craig, 90, passed away peacefully at Jefferson Manor in Brookville on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Mr. Craig was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 23, 1924, the son of the late Elizabeth (Ketley) Walters. On May 31, 1947, Edwin married Rebecca (Hamilton) Craig. She preceded him in death in July 2009.
Edward was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a medic in Germany during the World War II. Following service to his country, Edwin worked for Bell Telephone as both a lineman and as a manager. He retired after nearly 38 years with Bell Telephone; a long and successful career.
Following retirement, Mr. Craig stayed extremely active in his personal life, his church, and within the community of Punxsutawney. In his personal life, he enjoyed being outdoors gardening, bird-watching, and golfing. When not spending time with his family or enjoying the outdoors, he loved working jigsaw puzzles. As a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, he was a church elder and an usher for over 50 years. In keeping with his active lifestyle, Edwin firmly believed in supporting his community. As such, he was a former member of the Punxsutawney Borough Council and an active member in both the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and The American Legion. He was also a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. In spite of active involvement in his community and his church, Edwin absolutely treasured his family which brought him great joy; especially his four great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Edwin is survived by two sons and two daughters. His sons are Donald A. Craig and his wife, Lisa, of Pulaski, and Lance Craig and his wife, Karen, of Mercer. His daughters are Diane R. Forsythe and her husband, Richard, of Punxsutawney and Laurie Craig and her partner, Kathy Kopp, of Worthville. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Tyler Craig and his wife, Rebekah, Kelly Miller and her husband, Brandon, Mark Ewing and his wife, Amber, Becky Petrini, and A.J. Craig. His four great-grandchildren are Madysen Ewing, Peyton Petrini, Austin and Rylee Ewing.
Mr. Craig was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Burgin; and a grandson, Matthew Ewing.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Brett Swanson. His ashes will be interred privately at Circle Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in Mr. Craig's memory to the Presbyterian Church.
