Edwin Glenn Gibson, 80, who came in to the world on June 16, 1937, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Florida.
He leaves his children, Monica Zabczyk and Roger, Linda McMahon and Brian, and son Edwin Gibson Jr.; grandchildren: Keith Gibson, Michaela Zabczyk, Matthew Kurtenbach, and Cassandra (Brian) Hodys; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Taylor, Carson, Tyler, Jayda, and Olivia; sister, Deloris (Pip) Smith; brothers, Richard (Dick) Gibson and Dave (Mary) Gibson; in-laws, Patrica (Calvin) Wood, Dixie (George) Matthew, Kathy Harper, Russell (Joyace) Ommen, Kenny (Kara) Ommen; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Maryann Haag of DuBois, Pa.
Born and raised in Reynoldsville, Pa., the son of Robert G. and Ruby A (Fox) Gibson. He attended school in Reynoldsville. After leaving Reynoldsville High School in 1954, Edwin enlisted in the United States Air Force completing his basic training at Sampson AFB, N.Y.
The Air Force gave Edwin the opportunity to travel and live in many places. He met his wife (Marlene) while stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; together they lived in California, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina, and Aviano, AB, Italy. He held many job titles including Bomb Navigation Mechanic, Missile Test Equipment Technician and Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory Specialist. Edwin Retired from the Air Force in 1974 from Ellsworth AFB, SD where he continued to raise his family.
After retiring from the Air Force, Edwin worked for Control Data Corporation; SCI systems, and the Raytheon Company.
Edwin loved to travel, upon his retirement he spent his time traveling throughout the United States, spending his winters in Englewood, Florida.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruby Gibson; wife, Marlene (Ommen); son, Michael Joseph Gibson; brothers, Robert (Buzz) and Irvin (Bird) Gibson.
A celebration of life and interment will take place in June of 2018 in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
