Evelyn R. Kirkwood, 82, DuBois, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by family.
Born March 24, 1933, in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Roman J. Mabie and Anna Mary (Abramovich) Mabie.
Evelyn is survived by three children: Romaine Koepp of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Marianne Snedden of DuBois, and Robert Kirkwood and his wife, Jennifer, of Lexington Park, Md.; two sisters, Romaine Hanson and Colleen (Jack) Foltyn, both of Erie; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert D. Kirkwood; five brothers: Joseph "Billy" Mabie, Norman "Bubs" Mabie, Charles "Chuck" Mabie, Regis "Reggie" Mabie and Albert "Mickey" Mabie; two sisters, Geraldine "Gerry" Yount and Beverly "Becky" Hoff.
She was Roman Catholic and firmly believed in prayer and was always praying fervently for family, friends and those in need with her rosaries and prayer books.
Her passion was working outside in the yard every day.
She was very involved in Little League while her son played, and was a team mother for the 1979 13 year-old All Stars.
She was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan and could be heard showing her support on game day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Just For Jesus Challenge Homeless Outreach Ministries, Salvation Army, of a charity of the donor's choice.
A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 22, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in DuBois with the Rev. Fr. Dan Kresinski officiating, followed by burial at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Leo Nedza Funeral Home of DuBois.
