Averyl Faye Smock Parker ("Faye") passed away April 3, 2021 at age 88 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born June 14, 1932 to Arthur Lee Smock and Cleora Muriel Joy Wheeling of Sharon, PA.
Faye attended Hickory High School and Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. She graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She earned a master's degree in education at Edinboro State College in 1976.
In 1954, Faye married Lee Wayne Parker, Jr. The couple entered the Methodist ministry in 1965 and pastored churches in Linesville, Edinboro, Pittsburgh, and DuBois, PA. Throughout her life, Faye contributed her musical talents in the church as choir member, piano accompanist, and director of bell choirs.
Faye's career began as business educator at Conneaut Area Senior High School, Linesville. For eight years, she was a business teacher at General McLane High School, Edinboro. In Pittsburgh, Faye was employed as a corporate designer, consultant, and trainer for Mellon Bank, Headquarters. After her retirement from Mellon, she started her own company, WordWrite, which offered business training courses and manuals.
With Lee, Faye built a retirement home in Citrus County, FL. The couple enjoyed traveling and spending summers in Pennsylvania. After Lee's death, Faye and son Chris downsized to apartment living in Jacksonville. They were members of Mandarin UMC.
Faye was known for her faith, strength, beauty, elegance, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She excelled in all her endeavors. Paul's words in Romans Chapter 8: 38-39 best sum up her belief--that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Surviving are her daughter Linda Parker and son-in-law Thomas Reel of DuBois, PA; son Donald Parker and granddaughter Heather Parker of Pensacola, FL; son Christopher Parker of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Melanie Parker of Orange Park, FL; sister Gail Chaffee of Green Valley, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Faye was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Muriel, her sister Marjorie, and sister-in-law Florence Alexander.
Service: Memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 22, 2021, Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, with the Reverend David Coul, officiating.
