Firl S. Himmelberger, 65, 333 Ohio St., Reynoldsville, died at 8:09 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born May 31, 1949, in Lebanon, Pa., he was a son of the late Leon N. Himmelberger and Alma Crawford Himmelberger. He married Shirley L. Bodenhorn Himmelberger on June 9, 2007. She survives and lives in Reynoldvsille.
Firl was a 1967 graduate of Lebanon Area High School in Lebanon. He retired as a nursing assistant at the Lebanon VA Hospital after 42 years of service.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as an E-5 in the Navy.
He was a member of the Emerickville United Methodist Church, Lebanon American Legion Post 158 and the F.O.Eagles #540, Reynoldsville.
Firl is also survived by a son, Colin L. (Jennifer) Lohnes of Richland; two daughters, Marsha (Dean) Balton of Wrightsville and Tina Shearer of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Shawn (Steve) Erb of Lebanon.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Niels Himmelberger.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today (Sunday, April 12, 2015) at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Carr officiating. Burial will be in Friedens Memorial Park Cemetery, Myerstown. Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Honor Guard.
