Floyd D. "Sonney" Brochey, age 78, of Harborcreek, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Reynoldsville, Pa., on Sept. 30, 1937, a son of the late Landis and Grace Himes Brochey.
Floyd was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School and had attended the former Erie Business College.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Floyd was employed by Hammermill Paper Co. for 35 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and was a First Degree Knight of Columbus. He was also a member of the East Erie Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry, painting and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Mary Grace and Bethany Nicole; three sisters, Dorothy, Faye and Betty; three brothers, Ronnie, Raymond and Jack; and his father-in-law, Edward F. Pluta.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Joan Marie Pluta Brochey; his three children, Kathryn Marie Matson (Darin) of Franklin, Tenn., Christopher Michael Brochey (Mandy) of Harrisburg, Pa., and Suzanne Marie Pierce (Trevor) of Lebanon, Pa; four grandchildren: Kaylie and Grant Matson, Michael Brochey and Evan Pierce; three sisters, Elaine Russell, Esther Emery and Fran Rentovich (John); his mother-in-law, Mary Pluta; a very dear nephew, Jim Hicks and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek), on Sunday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Monday at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 837 Bartlett Rd., Harborcreek, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass to be celebrated there at 10 a.m. Floyd will be laid to rest at North East Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the American Legion, Carl Neff Post #571.
