Frances M. Mitchell, 87, West Washington Avenue, DuBois, died Friday, June 19, 2015, at Christ the King Manor.
Born Feb. 12, 1928, in Salem Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Michael C. and Dorothy (Miller) Chestnut. On Nov. 24, 1949, she married Ronald Mitchell. He preceded her in death May 20, 2007.
Fran worked for many years in the kitchen at Christ the King Manor. She, along with her husband, was the owner of Mitchell's Gulf Service on Brady Street in DuBois for more than 25 years.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was very active the St. Catherine Church activities.
Fran was the valedictorian of Sykesville High School Class of 1945.
She served on the DuBois First Ward Election Board for many years, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Friendship Hose Co. # 2 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: Margaret "Peggy" Blaszczyk and her husband, Jerry, of Erie, Gary Mitchell and his wife, Jacqueline, of DuBois, Dorothy Morris and her husband, Robert, of Williston, Vt., and Douglas Mitchell and his wife, Annette, of Erie; a brother, James Chestnut of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Chestnut.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois. The rosary will be prayed at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday followed by a scriptural wake service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. Burial follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be placed with Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Ave., and/or DuBois Central Catholic, P.O. Box 567, both in DuBois, PA 15801.
