Frances Pauline Hartin, 102, wife of the late Forrest Dana Hartin, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at The Carolina House in Pinehurst, N.C.
Frances was born July 27, 1912, in Luthersburg. She was the oldest of 11 children born to the late John Edward Hayes and Grace Gertrude Colwell Hayes.
She graduated from the Brady Township High School in 1931. Later she received her teaching degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her master's degree from Central Connecticut State University.
Frances resided most of her life in Manchester, teaching at Waddell School for many years.
She loved playing cards, especially bridge, with her friends. She bowled and played golf until she was 90 years old.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Berry and her husband, Daniel Berry, of Grand Cayman, BWI. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Alison Berry of Cleveland, Ohio, and Kevin Berry and his wife, Rebecca, and their son, Bryce, of Chevy Chase, Md.; two sisters, Jacqueline and her husband, Howard Crawford, of Pittsburgh; and Kathleen Campbell of Seattle, Wash.; her brother, Richard and his wife, Margaret, of Avalon, N.J.; her sister-in-law, Jean Hayes of Luthersburg; and her brother, Charles and his wife, Jeanette, of Luthersburg.
Frances was also preceded in death by her son, Douglas Hartin; her sister, Millicent Gould and her husband, William Gould; and brothers: John, Robert, Jake, Albert and Willard Hayes and his wife, Anna Mae; and brother-in-law, Richard Campbell.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.
