G. Elwood Carlson, 92, formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 16, 2015, at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born Jan. 1, 1923, in DuBois, a son of Gust A. and Ruth Welchaunce Carlson. He married Mabel I. Bundy in 1946 in DuBois. She preceded him in death June 24, 1985.
Elwood was a graduate of DuBois High School, DuBois Business College and received a bachelors in accounting from Ryder College in New Jersey and a masters in accounting from IUP. He was a veteran of the World War II Army 8th Air Force and Army Reserves.
He retired as controller at Mercy Hospital in 1988.
Elwood was a member of Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, Ironmasters Country Club and a past member of Kiwanis and Rotary Club in Indiana.
Elwood was an avid golfer and bowler and was active in church affairs.
Surviving are: two sons, Merritt E. (Kim) of Los Angeles and John E. (Loida) of State College; two daughters, Nancy (David) Keller of Altoona and Maxine R. (Harry) Geschwilm of Monkton, Md.; a brother, Frank (Helen) Carlson of Erie; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Marlys Hershberger. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, Pa.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, in memory of Elwood.
