George W. Cleaver, 72, East Teaberry Street, Weedville, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at home after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 14, 1943, in Portland Mills, Pa., the son of the late Clarence and Helen (Bugden) Cleaver. He was married to Sheila Sabin on June 19, 1999. She survives.
Born and raised in Portland Mills, he served in the Navy for 20 years and lived in Bennetts Valley since 1984.
He was a graduate of Ridgway High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1981, retiring with four Good Conduct awards, National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
He worked at Motion of Ridgway from 1981-1995.
He enjoyed turkey hunting.
Survivors also include four children: David Cleaver of Washington D.C., Rita (Michael) Bonfardine of Cullpepper, Va., Robert Cleaver of Weedville and Jeffrey E. Oyler of Weedville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond E. Cleaver of James Creek, Charles (Karen) Cleaver of Ridgway; a sister, Margaret Cleaver of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Drew Cleaver.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Nagele officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery, Force.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Hahne Cancer Center of DuBois, Pa.
