George Yarus, 81, Treasure Lake, DuBois, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Somerville, N.J.
On June 26, 1976, he married Suzanne M. (Fetzko) Yarus, who loved him dearly. This summer, they celebrated 40 years of marriage. She survives.
In 2005, George retired from Bridgewater Resources as a heavy equipment operator. For 20 years, he served as the sexton at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he was a member. He was a member of North Point Fire Company (formerly Treasure Lake Fire Company) and Hillsborough Fire Department in New Jersey.
During his time in the Army Reserve, he served as a tank operator.
George enjoyed the outdoors, yard work, doing jigsaw puzzles, model trains, fishing with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. He loved to fix anything and was always willing to help.
He is survived by three children, Daniel K. (Elizabeth) Yarus, Milltown, N.J., Cory (Kerrie) Yarus, DuBois, and Virginia Cranfield, North Carolina; as well as six grandchildren: Layton, Jaedon, Delaney, Daniel, Peter, and Andrew Yarus. He was the last member of his immediate family.
He will be missed immensely by family and friends.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, Dec. 29, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc. of DuBois. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Whitaker officiating. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Memorial Garden in Somerville, N.J.
