Harold Cheatle, 97, of 679 Washington Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Penn Highlands DuBois, after a brief illness.
He was born November 19, 1920, in St. Marys, son of the late Frank and Catherine Caskey Cheatle. Harold was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring after 43 years of service.
On July 14, 1951, in the Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp, Harold married Adelia M. Bona, who preceded him in death on November 5, 1994.
Harold is survived by a son, Gerard "Gerry" Cheatle and his wife Karen of Toby; two grandsons, George (Lori) Cheatle and Nicholas Cheatle; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Kopp, Virginia Volovar, and Catherine Olson, all of St. Marys; and by a brother, Francis Cheatle of St. Marys.
In addition to his wife and parents, Harold was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Sporner and Theresa Kopp; and by four brothers, Bernard, Norman, Alfred, and Jerome Cheatle.
Harold was a member of the St. Mary's Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, and Rev. Ross Miceli concelebrating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
