Harry "Ed" Edgar Neiswonger, age 83, of Corsica, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in the comfort of his room, as a resident of the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, Pa.
Ed was born on Jan. 17, 1933, in Fairmount City, Pa., to the late Harry and Margaret (Servey) Neiswonger. In 1955, Ed married Nancy (Hindman) Neiswonger; for over 61 years they had been an inseparable package, displaying easily their example of what a successful marriage looks like. Nancy survives him.
Ed served his country honorably when he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and in Panama. After his time in the Army he began operating heavy equipment and had a successful career that started with Stahlman Coal Co. He then worked for C & K Coal Co., and eventually took a position with DGB Trucking, from which he retired.
Ed was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Corsica, Pa., and he also affiliated with the National Rifle Association and the Strattanville American Legion.
He enjoyed many things in his life and just about everything involved being with members of his family. He enjoyed taking family trips to camp, or he would take his grandkids hunting. He had the talent of being able work on and repair just about anything, and he loved to share this knowledge with his grandsons, helping to prepare them for self sufficiency in their own lives. He labored diligently in his work and personal life as he created a reputation of having the willingness to help anyone who needed it; he would do anything for anybody. He also loved to mow grass, and he took joy in mowing his neighbors' yards when he did his own.
Ed knew the importance of being a strong patriarch, an example of leadership who would help his next generation carry forward good standards and become productive members of the community. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Ed is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Ray) Wagner of Corsica, Pa.; two sons, Ken (Sharon) Neiswonger of Strattanville, Pa.; Donald (Sue) Neiswonger of Summerville, Pa.; one son-in-law, James Beveridge; one sister, Eunice (Lee) Theiss of Strattanville, Pa.; five grandsons: Ryan (Faith) O'Brien, Chad (Bridget) O'Brien, Scott Neiswonger, Cody (Tina) Wolbert, Luke Wolbert; two granddaughters, Heather (Keith) Shirey, Andrea (James) Alexander; and nine great-grandchildren.
