Mrs. Helen Marie Jordan, 90, of Punxsutawney passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday morning, April 22, 2016, at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Mrs. Jordan was born on Dec. 14, 1925, in Clarion, a daughter of the late Max and Amy Pauline (Work) Crawford. Helen married Phil Mallory Jordan on July 26, 1945. Phil was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Phil preceded Helen in death on Sept. 26, 2007.
Helen was a vibrant and energetic person with an incredible memory and very quick wit. An especially independent person, she enjoyed life to the fullest and was constantly on the move seldom letting "grass grow under her feet." Helen possessed a very humorous side and always smiled and laughed finding joy in everything. She immersed herself into the community. As a member of the Historical Society, her sharp memory and attention to detail contributed immensely to bringing the past into the present. She also previously loved to play golf and was a former member of the Punxsutawney Country Club, and in keeping with her compassionate and giving nature, was active with the food pantry on Woodland Ave. Helen was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was such a joy and pleasure to be around. She is a remarkable woman and will indeed be dearly missed by so many.
Mrs. Jordan is survived by her daughter-in-law, Julie Jordan of Big Run and her sister, Bea Pitrone and her husband Tony of Dubois.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her son, John J. Jordan; two brothers, Paul and Edward Crawford; and four sisters, Marian Williams, Maxine Dellamaestra, Lois Palmer and Betty McDermott.
There will be no viewing, however, friends will be received from 1 - 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., of Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held immediately afterwards at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Bret Swanson.
Mrs. Jordan's ashes will be interred at Circle Hill Cemetery of Punxsutawney.
