Herbert "Herb" L. Cable, 98, of Falls Creek, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Herbert was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Falls Creek. He was the son of the late Emanuel and Elsie Mae (Lowers) Cable.
Herb was married to Adelene Bonell (Sones) Tilson on May 18, 1968. She preceded him in death.
Herb was Protestant by faith and a member of Local 354 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Ancient Accepted Scottish Right DuBois and Williamsport Consistory, Past President and member of the Falls Creek Lions Club, VFW DuBois Post 813 and American Legion DuBois Post 0945.
Herb enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, gardening and watching baseball and football on TV.
Herb enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater with the 4606th Quarter Master Truck Company in charge of 11 men.
Herb is survived by one son, Allen H. Cable and wife Cathy of DuBois; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Bill (Bonnie K.) Crater of DuBois; one stepson, G. Camden Tilson of Sykesville; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight step-great–grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Herb was also preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine "Geri" Cable O'Donnell, four brothers and five sisters.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois. Services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tharren Thompson officiating. Military services will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery.
