Hester B. "Sandy" Keown, age 87, formerly of Reynoldsville, Pa., passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Christ The King Manor.
Sandy was born on Feb. 12, 1930, in Chicago, to the late William E. and Ruth M. (Nocka) Bodenstein. She was married to William H. Keown, on July 20, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2015.
Sandy was a graduate of Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended the University of Cincinnati, where she obtained a master's degree in elementary and secondary education, and a bachelor's degree in home economics.
Her working career included teaching, S&T Bank, driving school bus, but most of all she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her children, grandchildren and socializing with friends.
Sandy was a member of the AAUW, Eastern Star, and The Young at Heart Group at Mt. Zion Church. She was formerly the church secretary at Lakeside Methodist Church, where she enjoyed playing in the hand bell choir. Her hobbies included bowling, genealogy, and photography.
Sandy is survived by four daughters: Sarah L. Keown, DuBois, Jenny K. (John) Jacobson, DuBois, Mary Ruth (Bryon) Wilson, Reynoldsville, and Carolyn (Robert) Pinchot, Newark, Del.; six grandchildren: Justin (Gretchen) and Aaron (Jessica) Jacobson, Adam (Leah) and Jake Wilson, and Tony and Derek Pinchot; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sandy was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert William Keown.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 4 – 8 p.m. and from 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc., DuBois. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Adamson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Internment will be in the Beechwoods Cemetery, Falls Creek, Pa.
