Ida Mae Uplinger, 73, a lifelong resident of Brookville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Brookville Hospital.
Ida was born on March 19, 1943, a daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Kennedy) Shaffer. She married her husband of 54 years, Norman Michael Uplinger Jr., on Oct. 7, 1962. Mr. Uplinger survives.
Mrs. Uplinger led a very busy life. She was employed by Agway of Brookville for 25 years and drove a school van for the Brookville School District. When not busy with work or her family, Ida enjoyed being outdoors where she could tend to her garden and her many lovely flower beds, taking great pride in their beauty. Ida was particularly fond of cats and loved hers very much. She also had a passion for reading and especially liked Amish books. Most of all, though, her family came first. Ida relished the company of her husband, children, and grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. A woman of great faith, she was a member of the Ramseytown United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and soul mate of 54 years, Norman, Ida is survived by her daughter, Carol Aharrah and her husband Lon of Brookville; and her son, James Uplinger, also of Brookville. Ida is survived by a number of siblings. Her brothers are Paul Shaffer of Brookville, Everett Shaffer and his wife Sherry of Brookville, Glenn Shaffer and his wife Vonnie of Corsica, John Shaffer of Brookville, and Wayne Shaffer and his wife Rita of Brookville. Her sisters are Marie Keller and her husband Robert of DuBois and Helen Lockwood of Hazen. Ida is survived by four grandchildren: Jason Harrah and his fiancée Becky Baker, Mark Harrah and his fiancée Samantha Shultz, Jeremy Harrah and his wife Megan, and Courtney Menteer and her husband Ryan.
Mrs. Uplinger was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Marie (Kennedy) Shaffer.
Family and friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., of Punxsutawney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, and officiated by the Reverend Mike Garvey.
