James H. Ferrier, 92, of Vineland, N.J., and formerly of DuBois, Pa., passed away on Saturday morning, May 27, 2017, at the Inspira Medical Center, Vineland, N.J.
Jim was born in Green Twp., Indiana County, Pa., to the late M. Roene (Boyer) and Chester C. Ferrier. Jim had lived in DuBois for 43 years prior to moving to S. Jersey. He was the husband of the late O. Kathaleen (Henry) Ferrier, who died in 2014.
Jim was a 1943 graduate of Indiana High School.
After high school he worked on the Brown family farm before being inducted into the Army. Jim served as a PFC in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. He received the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Award and Four Service Stars. After his military service overseas he later rejoined the Army and served as a sergeant before being discharged in 1949.
Before retiring with 27 years of service in 1989, Jim was a district manager for the Fuller Brush Co.
Jim enjoyed collecting stamps, going for long walks, eating ice cream and playing with his grandchildren. He was a generous, loving family man, who was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his children, James A. and Barbara Ferrier, Colorado Springs, Colo., Cynthia L. and Gary Derr, Boise, Idaho, Lois J. and Lowell Satterfield, Vineland, N.J.; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Kathy, his wife of 68 years, six sisters, one brother, and a grandson.
Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, June 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Ramoth Church of the Nazarene, 2725 N. Delsea Dr., Vineland, N.J., where his funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, in the Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, Pa.
