James M. Beck, 94, of Hormtown, Pa., died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Penn Highlands Brookville in Brookville, Pa.
Born Monday, Feb. 20, 1922, in Reynoldsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Cleveland L. Beck and the late Mary M. (Lindemuth) Beck. He was the husband of the late Anna Mae (Asp) Beck who died Oct. 22, 1952, and the late H. Lucielle (Oster) Beck who died Dec. 1, 2002.
He was a farmer and worked in the lumber industry at saw mills. Later in life he retired from Brockway Glass.
He was a member of the Reynoldsville Grange and was council member and treasurer for the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hormtown for many years.
He served as a Tech Sergeant in the 71st Troop Carrier Command of the Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, were he flew missions in Normandy, earning a Presidential Unit Citation.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Thomson of Brockway, Pa.; stepdaughter, Janice Huffman (Dennis) of Brookville, Pa.; stepson, John Palmer (Cheryl) of Erie, Pa.; sister, Annie Koons of Smyrna, Tenn.; two grandsons, six step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wives he was predeceased by his son, Daniel Beck; brothers: Amos, Ira, Paul, Albert, Archie and Melvin Beck; sisters, Lydia McAninch, Ida Mae Armagost and Betty Beck; and son-in-law, George Thomson Sr.
A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., located at 206 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, PA 15851, with the Rev. Benjamin Austin officiating. Interment will be in Smith Cemetery, Reynoldsville, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to a veterans' organization of the donor's choice.
