Joan A. Okonski Kilmer, age 60, of Treasure Lake, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 21, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lelia K. (Miller) Okonski.
She was married to Michael Kilmer, who survives. They celebrated their silver anniversary on Aug. 24, 2016.
Joan graduated from DuBois Area High School and Penn State University. She was always an avid Penn State fan. After a number of years working in retail, she finished her working career as a peer counselor at Cen-Clear Child Services. She enjoyed camping and spending time around a campfire with friends and family. Joan had a great love of the outdoors. She was involved in Girl Scouts as a leader and serving as camp director at Curry Creek. Joan was the family photographer and could always be counted on to capture those special family moments.
She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was a past member and officer of the Hickory Grange #1285 and a past member of the DuBois Lions Club. She was also certified in small watercraft instruction.
Joan is survived by brothers: Donald Okonski and his wife, Sherry of DuBois, Pa., Jon Ed Okonski of Bellefonte, Pa., and Justin Okonski and his wife, Janet of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sisters: Judy Catherman and her husband, Richard of Bellefonte, Pa., Janice Fleming of DuBois, Pa., and Patti Alvetro and her husband, Randy of DuBois, Pa. She is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.
One sister, Nina, preceded her in death in infancy.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
