Joanne G. "Dolly" Symonds, 87, of Kearney Road Brockway died on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Center for Compassionate Care in Pittsburgh.
Born July 5, 1927, in Brockway, she was the daughter of the late Alexander D. and Julia Murone Volpe.
Dolly was married to Samuel Fustine and he died on Nov. 23, 1953. She then married William J. Symonds Jr. and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2009.
Retired, she had been employed at the Montgomery Ward store in DuBois for many years and later at DeMans Inc. in Brookville for close to 15 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Jack) DeMotte of Brookville and Julie (Ollie) Jedlick of Pittsburgh; a brother, John R. Volpe of Maryland; and a sister, Catherine Gilkerson of Florida.
Dolly is also survived by seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was a member at St. Tobias Church in Brockway and was a member of the Rosary Society. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday (today), July 20, at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, with Msgr. Charles Kaza as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Tobias Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Tobias Church, 1100 Hewitt Street, Brockway, PA 15824 or to Ascera Care in Brookville.

Julie, Sheila, and families,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mom, a great, fun, loving woman. I will never forget the wonderful times spent at your house. You all truly made me feel like a part of the family. Though our paths have not crossed for a while, our hearts will always be connected. Memories will live forever. May your dear mom rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine upon her.
