He was born on Sept. 4, 1935, to Charlotte Peterson.
John (known among friends and family as "Jack") grew up in DuBois, graduating from DuBois High School. He then joined the US Navy where he was stationed in Gander, Newfoundland and met and fell in love with his (now former) wife, Anastasia O'Rourke. John and Anastasia divorced in 1983.
They raised four loving children in Pepperell, Mass., two of whom predeceased him: Sandra Lee, born Nov. 23, 1957, and Gerald David, born March 22, 1959. He is survived by two daughters, Tamela and Michele, and their children and partners; as well as a wonderful new grand baby: Tamela and Jon Swan of Dalton, N.H.; Lindsay Swan and Adrian Gudino and baby Gabriel of Scurry, Texas and Ian Swan, of Brooklyn, N.Y. Michele and Richard Pearl have two sons, Ethan of Bozeman, Mont., and Oliver who is a rising senior in high school in Franklin, Mass.
John had a long and distinguished career in electrical engineering, after graduating from Penn State on the GI Bill in 1962. He worked for technology innovators such as General Dynamics and Digital Equipment Corp, based in Massachusetts.
His retired life in Pennsylvania involved connecting with lifelong friends over golf and coffee at their local favorite spot.
