John "Jack" Duttry, 79, DuBois, Pa., passed on at the DuBois Nursing Home on Jan. 31, 2016.

Born in DuBois on June 10, 1936, Jack was the son of Harold "Boss" Duttry and Mary Huntington. Both preceded him in death.

He was previously married to Jacqueline Poorman, but then wed Mary Jo Dressler, his wife until her passing in 1998.

After graduating from DuBois High School, Jack worked as a certified welder for the B&O RR and later served as a patrolman before being promoted to Chief of Police for Sandy Township until his retirement. As the owner of Duttry Drilling, Duttry Contracting, and co-owner of Duttry Real Estate, Jack was responsible for the construction, repair, and/or sale of countless homes in the DuBois area. His love for hunting meant that friends could count on Jack to put venison in their freezers every hunting season. His passion for life ensured that every moment was lived as he chose to live it. A dedicated NASCAR fan, his commitment carried him to races in Daytona for nearly four decades and to Charlotte for fifty years. He was a proud member in good standing of the Fraternal Order of Police and the NRA. Finally, his faith made Jack a lifelong member and contributor to his church.

Jack is survived by seven children: Harold "Chipper" Duttry and his life partner, Lori, of Luthersburg, Pa., John Reed, Cherie Lynn Laycock of Lynchburg, Va., Cathy Tubbs and her husband, Doug, of State College, Pa., Kathleen Grace Young of Bluemont, Va., Daniel Duttry and his wife, Robin, of Treasure Lake, Pa., and David Duttry of Falls Creek, Pa. Jack is also survived by his two loving sisters, Thelma (Robert) Bush of Sabula and Beverly (Richard) Copelli of Brockway. Additionally, he is survived by 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and lastly his loyal Beagle, Sir Duke.

Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Myers, and a brother, Harold Duttry Jr.

The Sabula United Methodist Church welcomes all for fellowship and sharing from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, with a service of remembrance immediately following at 4 p.m. led by Pastor "Butch" Brunner. Interment will be at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
