John F. Reed, 94, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 16, 2014, at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
Born April 21, 1920, in Falls Creek, he was the son of the late William R. and Sophia Turk Reed. He married Mary C. Kowalik on June 14, 1941, in DuBois. She survives.
John was a graduate of Sandy High School. He was a machinist at Rockwell Manufacturing.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving as a Seabee in the Pacific Theatre, attaining the rank of electrician's Mate 2nd Class.
John was a lifelong member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, DuBois.
He was also a member of the American Legion, DuBois VFW and the DuBois Beagle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He and his wife, Mary, have resided with their daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Loren Woods, in Hollidaysburg for the past six years.
Survivors also include daughters: Carol (Woody) Woods of Hollidaysburg and Marylou (George) Houck of Pennsylvania Furnace; five grandchildren: Erin (Jordan) Zitoun, Gwen Houck, Ezekiel (Elizabeth) Woods, Nathanael Woods, Joshua (Vicki) Woods; and eight great-grandchildren: Elias, Aaron and Julia Woods, McKenzie and Paige Woods, Rowan and Gavin Woods and Todd Trainer.
Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St. Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. officiated by his son-in-law Loren Woods.
Committal prayers will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Catherine of Siena Cemetery, DuBois.
