Born June 3, 1926, in Brookville to the late Hilary and Fern (Crawford) Gerg, Jack attended the Brookville School District before enlisting in the United States Navy during his senior year to serve in World War II, graduating after his service and honorable discharge.
He married Doris (Caldwell) Gerg on Sept. 20, 1952. She survives.

He was known for his conversational abilities and genuine interest in learning about others. He greatly valued his family, friends and community, always encouraging and supporting those he knew to pursue their passions. He enjoyed regularly attending his grandchildren's sporting events and was a member of Pinecrest Country Club. Jack also enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other activities involving the outdoors, and had an extensive knowledge of the local landscape.
