John J. "Jack" Fritz, 81, Rainbow Drive, DuBois, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Christ the King Manor, after a short illness.
Born July 4, 1933, in Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late Jasper M. and Kathryn Jones Fritz.
He grew up and graduated from Osceola Mills High School where he was a standout track and football player.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from 1953-55 during the Korean War.
He married May L. McGaha Fritz on April 2, 1955. She survives. After meeting his wife in Texarkana, Ark., they moved back to DuBois, where he began working for the A&P grocery store.
He then began working for Edwards Lakes to Sea Bus Lines as well as Continental Trailways as a bus driver. He managed the DuBois bus terminal for many years. Jack was also the owner of Jo May Pet Store in DuBois for many years.
Jack loved NASCAR and was Jeff Gordon's biggest fan. He was also a bowling addict. Throughout the years, he amassed every bowling award that was possible. He rolled 300 games as well as holding numerous officer positions in the Allegheny Mountain Bowling Association (AMBA). He was also elected to the Allegheny Mountain Bowling Association Bowling Hall of Fame.
He also enjoyed woodworking in the garage his entire life; his work is loved by all.
He lived his life to the fullest, and enjoyed every day. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather.
He is survived by two sons, John Fritz and his wife, Lori; and Jeffrey Fritz and his wife, Jill, both of DuBois; five grandchildren: John "JD", Cory, Abby, Adam, and Tyler Fritz; two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Jordan Fritz; three brothers: Dan Fritz of Sterling, Va., Rush Fritz of Washington, D.C., and Jerry Fritz of Mechanicsburg; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois. The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor John Miller officiating. Full military honors will be accorded from the funeral home. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
