John was a 1950 graduate of Brookville Area High School and upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly and honorably served in Korea with the 13th Bomb Squadron accomplishing 50 combat missions in a B-26. He also served in Vietnam with the 310 Tactical Airlift Squadron. While serving in the United States Air Force as a Flight Engineer and air craft maintenance specialist he received many distinguished honors and medals, including serving in the "Presidential Squadron." After obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant, he retired in 1972.
He was a member of the Meade Chapel United Methodist Church in Knox Dale, the American Legion Post #102, the Air Force Sergeants' Association, and a former member of the Brookville Lion's Club.
