John P. "Tinker" Petrosky, age 101, West Long Avenue, DuBois, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at Christ the King Manor.
Born March 10, 1915, in DuBois, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Victoria (Yuskalis) Petrosky.
In June of 1941, he married Rose M. (DeCarli) Petrosky. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2002.
John retired from the Pennsylvania Power and Electric after over 40 years of service as a coal miner. Previous to that, he worked in the Cramer Mines until its closing in 1958.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. He was the oldest member of the Oklahoma Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the former Lithuanian Independence Club and the United Mine Workers Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and enjoyed peeling copper wire.
He is survived by his son, Richard Petrosky and his wife, Janice of DuBois, Pa.; and his daughter, Mary Michaeline Shuman and her husband, Ben of West Hickory, Pa.; a sister, Valeria Veshinfsky and her husband, Charles of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Petrosky; two sisters, Mary Petrosky and Nellie Henderson; and a brother, Michael Petrosky.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois, and from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, 2016, from the Chapel at Christ the King Manor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, from the Chapel at Christ the King Manor with Msgr. Desmond McGee as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family suggests that memorials be made to Christ the King Manor, 1100 West Long Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801.
