John Patrick Skarbek, Sr., 70, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

John was born in Punxsutawney on February 14, 1947 a son of the late Edward Joseph and Mary (Gresock) Skarbek.

Mr. Skarbek served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was employed as a coal miner for Greenwich Collieries.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy and farming. John cherished time with his family and never missed a Wednesday "spaghetti night" with his them - a special occasion to share precious time with those he loved so dearly.

John is survived by his wife Charlene; four children, John "Jake" P. Skarbek, II and Stacy of Reynoldsville, Greg Skarbek and Kelly, Marc Skarbek and Trisha, and Kelly Porada and "Critter", all of Punxsutawney. John is survived by six siblings; Ed Skarbek of Walston, Michael Skarbek and Barb of Punxsutawney, Ken Skarbek and Debra Doty of Punxsutawney, Nick Skarbek and Melanie of Punxsutawney, JoAnn Bailey of Bellwood, Christine and Bill Miller of Punxsutawney. Grandchildren are: Brycen, Johna, Jake, Ben, Brooke, Claire, and Lincoln Skarbek; and, Rachael and Autumn Porada.

John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Paul Bailey and his sister-in-law, Angela Skarbek.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 6, 2017 from 3 - 9 p.m. at Shumaker Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at St Adrian Catholic Church in Delancey on Tuesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo and Father William Barron officiating.

Interment will be at Adrian-Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery.
