John "Jake" Rio, 84, Hoovertown Road, Penfield, died suddenly, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at his residence.
Born Oct. 30, 1929 in Tyler, he was the son of the late Jiacimo and Anna Rio. He was married to Patricia Riley Rio on Dec. 29, 1951. She survives.
He was a graduate of Huston Township High School and lived all his life in the Penfield area.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55.
He was a truck driver for Merchant Grocery Co. of Falls Creek, dispatcher for Desalve's Service of Penfield and the Huston Township road crew.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church of Force. He loved the Pirates and the Steelers and especially his dog Peekie.
Survivors also include three children: Beverly Fox, Deannie Levenduski and Vicki Gardner all of Penfield; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Serafini of Kersey.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Rocco Grecco; five brothers: Frank "Flink," Joseph "Red," Rocco "Dutch," Cosimo "Chuck" and William "Bill;" two sisters. Mary Rio and Barbara Facchine.
There was be no visitation. Private services will be held at the family's convenience.
Jake's family suggests memorial donations be made to the Bennett's Valley Ambulance.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield.
