Joseph Bleggi, 76, Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Weedville, had returned to the Valley last week, his home place, to attend the funeral of his nephew, when he unexpectedly passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, in Penfield.
He was born May 24, 1938, in Weedville, a son of the late Albino and Gisella "Hazel" Michelini Bleggi. He first married Judy Carpin Bleggi who preceded him in death in 1988. He later married Linn Wilson Bleggi who survives and lives in Texas.
At his home in Texas, Joe cooked with his many friends at Good Shepard Parish Men's Club as well as for his family and friends.
He loved playing golf with his sons and preparing family dinners with his wife and daughters and listening to and playing music, inspired by The Polka Dots, the band of which he was a member prior to his entering Penn State.
A sports enthusiast, Joe's favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.
When home in the Valley, his favorite pastimes were shared with his sisters, Gin and Mary; and sister-in-laws, Gloria Bleggi and Patty Carpin Posteraro, cooking the fish he and his brother, Fran, had caught and arguing with his Uncle Rudy.
He is also survived by seven children: Jeffrey J. Bleggi and wife, Elizabeth, of Farmer Branch, Texas; Greg P. Bleggi and wife, Leslie, and Stephen M. Bleggi and wife, Denise, all of Frisco, Texas; Phillip J. Bleggi and wife, Ginger, of Portland, Ore., Mrs. William (Mary Jo) Clarkson of Allen, Texas; Meredith Frazier of Grapevine, Texas and Mrs. Dale Ashley A. Bennett of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Francis B. Bleggi and wife, Gloria, of Weedville; two sisters, Mary Morelli of Penfield and Mrs. Rudy (Virginia) Cadori of Weedville; and 11 grandchildren.
Joseph was also preceded in death by his baby sister, Rita.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force with the Rev. Fr. William Sutherland celebrant.
The family suggests donations to GRACE – Christmas Cottage Project in memory of Joseph Bleggi at 610 Shady Brook Dr., PO Box 412 Grapevine, TX 76099.
