Joseph J. Chase, 82, a resident of Silvercreek Terrace and formerly of 310 W. Mill Street, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Penn Highlands Elk following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1935, in DuBois, a son of the late Simon and Amelia Rokoski Chase.
On Jan. 26, 1965, in Sacred Heart Church, he married Bernice Haney Chase, who preceded him in death on June 6, 2011.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and retired from Stackpole after more than 36 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking and being outdoors. He also greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by three children, John Chase of Springfield, Ill., Victoria (Ron) Auman of St. Marys, and Joseph Hernandez of Springfield, Ill., as well as by eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Simon and Peter Chase, and by six sisters: Mary Uber, Helen Kosiba, Annie Sprankle, Dolly Ciprieni, Stella DeBore and Josephine Powers.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph J. Chase will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with the Rev. Michael Gabler, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
There will be no visitation.
