My dearest wife Patrice, as I witnessed you Zoom with your mother after she contracted COVID-19, my heart broke for you and Jules as she suffered. When mom couldn’t verbalize what/where the pain she was experiencing, you kept a brave face, singing to your mom and telling stories from days gone by. Then she peacefully died in her sleep. And being that we live 14k kilometers away made it (along with travel restrictions and mandated isolation) almost impossible to visit. When you showed me the photo of your brother holding moms hand as she transitioned into hospice care in Mentor Ridge, that was a great comfort indeed. And now your mother’s suffering is over, and you find your real friends and loved ones from the States offering prayers and love. And here, your staff, co-workers and acquaintances offering prayers of their respective faiths Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu are wonderful examples of the love people from all corners of the earth sharing your grief with respects, love & hugs. You stayed with mom on your twice yearly visits to the States, enjoying each other’s company, of course you never knew when you stayed with mom that it could be your last. And as I deduce from the great poet John Keats “Ode on a Grecian urn” that one’s life shouldn’t be defined by their passing. I believe time is not linear, but transcends our short time here, and that you make the most of every day of your life. My deepest respects and condolences to your brothers and to you my darling from your loving husband. And thank you for saving my life!
