Kathleen Marie Stoneberg London, 54, passed from this life Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at her residence. She was alone at her time of death except for the pets she dearly loved, her two dogs and a cat.
Kathy was born in Ridgway, June 27, 1960. She was the youngest child of Harry Leonard Stoneberg Jr. and Joyce Louise Barber Stoneberg, who have both mercifully preceded her in death.
Kathy was stricken with rheumatic fever as a very young child and was temporarily unable to walk. As a result her parents and siblings took extra special care of her and were very protective of her health until she made a complete recovery.
She was a passionate and devoted animal lover from the time she was a small child, constantly having dogs as her faithful companions and to comfort her in difficult times. For most of her life, Kathy struggled with mental illness and substance abuse, but she was also very intelligent and a very talented artist. She drew many pictures for others, and blessed her sister Susan with some of them in her hand made greeting cards.
Kathy shared her wish for her two daughters with her sister, that they would make better choices in life than she did. In spite of her own struggles and heartaches, she loved her children and her siblings very much.
She stated in recent years that she missed her family, and reached out to her sister more often through letters and occasional phone calls. Her life is an illustration of the truth that there is more to a person than what is seen on the surface, and what they are willing to show the world.
Kathy leaves a large group of loved ones: two daughters, Kimberly Ann Delp Smith and Danielle Surkala; a brother, Robert William Stoneberg of Tampa, Fla.; and a sister, Susan Lee Stoneberg Deasey of West Middlesex. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Brandon, Courtney and Johanna; and two nieces, Regina Lockwood of DuBois and Mercedes Stoneberg Uhl of Pittsburgh; and one nephew, Andrew Deasey of West Middlesex.
She also leaves a great-nephew, Thomas Christopher Uhl of Pittsburgh; uncles: Dean Bloom of Atlanta, Ga., Billy Stoneberg of DuBois, Kelly Stoneberg Sr. of Hershey, David Stoneberg Sr. of Hershey, James Stoneberg Sr. of Lake Mary, Fla., John Stoneberg Sr. of Mantua, Ohio; and three aunts: Norma Carnesali of Brockway, Bernice Grizzuti of Staten Island, N.Y., and Lucille Johnson of Kane; and 30 cousins, as well as two special aunts, Carole Stoneberg Levis and Sally Johnson Stoneberg.
Kathy was preceded in death by a cousin, Edward Carnesali Jr.; three uncles: Gary Stoneberg Sr., Charles Barber and Lloyd Barber; and her aunt, Nadeen Barber; and her grandparents: Harry Leonard Stoneberg Sr. and Josephine Sabatose Stoneberg, Harold and Jean Park Galloway and Merle Barber.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway. There are no public calling hours; a private memorial service by invitation only will be held at a later date to pay tribute to Kathy.
The family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial donation do so in Kathy's memory to a local mental health or substance abuse program.
Kathy, your earthly struggles are now over and we will all miss you. If you had any doubts that you were loved, you know now that you were and will always be loved by your family.
