Lamar W. Knittle, C.R.N.A, 70, died on Jan. 11, 2016, after a short illness.
Born Nov. 7, 1945, to Lloyd and Grace Knittle, Lamar grew up in Frackville, Pa., moved to DuBois, Pa., and then Saulte Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Lamar practiced anesthesia at War Memorial Hospital in Saulte St. Marie, where he retired in 2015.
Lamar proudly served in the US Army from 1967-1969 where he received several medals.
Lamar is survived by his wife of 34 years, Catherine (Frantz) Knittle; four children, Dorothy (Terry), Pamela Joy, David Knittle, Stacy (Pat) Sandy; and six grandchildren; as well as, sister, Barbra (Paul) Martin of Frackville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Uncle William Stank.
A private funeral service was held in Lansing, Michigan on Jan. 12, 2016, for the family. The family will receive friends for an open visitation from 2-5 p.m. Jan. 30, 2016, at the Alogonquin United Methodist Church, 1604 W. Fourth St., Saulte St. Marie, Michigan 49783.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter, 3660 Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
