Lawrence E. Reitz, 80, Route 36 Brookville, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at his home.
Born March 26, 1934, he was the son of the late George I. Reitz and Althea Dempsey Reitz. He was married to Hazel I. Shaffer on Sept. 7, 1956, in Brookville. She survives.
While still in high school Lawrence began working for the business George I. Reitz and Sons, Brookville, that his father founded in 1944. He continued to work for that same company until his retirement in 1996.
He was a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville.
He worked for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 50 years on the local, state and national levels. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Hobah Lodge No. 276 F&AM in Brookville, a member of many community organizations, and in 1985 he received Brookville's Dr. Walter Dick Award.
Survivors also include two sons, Alan Reitz (Betsy) of Brookville and Brian Reitz (Bobbi) of Sigel; two daughters, Carol Hetrick (Tim) of Fredericksburg, Va., and Diane Hollins (Darryl) of Salem, Va.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Alton G. Reitz; and a sister, Lenora R. Weaver.
Friends will be received from 1-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville and from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Timothy McConville and the Rev. Kevin Bockus officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery (Windy Hill), Rose Twp., Jefferson County.
