Lester Alden Beers, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, during a stay at the Penn Highlands Hospital in DuBois, Pa.
Born March 19, 1930, in Vanceboro, Maine, he was the son of Thomas and Eurrie Grass Beers. He was married to Muriel Cochran Beers on Nov. 12, 1955. She survives.
He was retired as Manager of Office Services for United Electric Coop, DuBois, Pa., since March of 1993. His career in rural electrification spanned 43 years.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Brookville Municipal Water and Sewer Authority. In addition, he served on the Statewide PA Municipal Authorities Association Board of Directors. Finally, he was a member of the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on its Board of Directors for two years.
He was a member of the Brookville Lions Club and was honored as the Brookville Lions Man of the Year during 1990/1991. He was a past member of the Brookville Community Club.
His masonic record included membership in the Hobah Lodge #276, Brookville, Pa., Coudersport Consistory, Coudersport, Pa. Lester received the 33rd degree on September 28, 1999, Jefferson Royal Arch Chapter, Brookville, Pa. Other accolades and memberships included Cryptic Mason of the Year for District #3, Jefferson County Consistory Club, Masonic Hall Association, past member Bethany Commandery No. 83, Knights Templar, DuBois, Pa., past member Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, Pa.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Brenda (Steven) Hinderliter of Home, Pa., and Pamela (Anthony) Distefano of Black Lick, Pa.; grandchildren: Megan (Matthew) Nielsen of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Lisa (Scott) Johnson of North Salt Lake, Utah, Troy (Anna) Hinderliter of Home, Pa., Tia Carollo of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jill (James) Oliver of Pittsburgh, Pa., John Distefano, Black Lick, Pa., Grant Distefano, Black Lick, Pa.; great-grandchildren: Blake, Mailey, Makenzie Nielsen, Hadley and Anders Johnson; one brother, Hugh Beers of Zephyrhylls, Fla.; special family friend, Kathleen Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Alden Beers, and siblings: Eileen Beers, Harold Beers, June Linscott, Josephine Porter, Ruth Sibley, Constance Allen and Beverly Petitti.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m., and officiated by Reverend Nathan Royster. Burial will be at the Glade Run Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dayton, Pa.
Memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Hall of Brookville or the donor's choice.
